Rationale: Produced commercially and used as an intermediate in organic synthesis, it is a fire-extinguishing agent that the U.S. Air Force is considering as a replacement for Halon in fire extinguishers used in aircraft. There is no literature present on the biological effects of CF3I. In computational studies done at Johns Hopkins University, CF3I was found to be a potent carcinogen.
