Rationale: Most brominated chemicals evaluated to-date by the NTP were carcinogenic in rodents. The mechanisms of carcinogenesis are unknown. Three of the nominated brominated chemicals have high production volumes and were identified as hazardous substances. Five of the brominated chemicals were identified as pesticides that are regulated by the EPA.
