Rationale: The EPA has listed three short-chain halogenated chemicals on the drinking water Candidate Contaminant List (CCL). The three chemicals were considered possible high priority candidates based on level of public concern and the need for additional research. 1,3-dichloropropane is found infrequently in drinking & source water but at fairly high concentrations. 2,2-dichloropropane is found infrequently and at low concentrations but is of interest because it shares structural similarities with 1,2-dichloropropane, a reproductive toxicant that also shows limited evidence of carcinogenicity in animals. 1,1-dichloropropene is found infrequently but at fairly high concentrations. It is of interest because it shares structural similarities with the pesticide 1, 3-dichloropropene that is carcinogenic in animals and is considered a possible human carcinogen by IARC.
