Nomination Summary for Ionic Liquids Class Study (N21010)

Nominated Substances: PEG-5 cocomonium methosulfate, Distearyldimethylammonium chloride, 1-Methylimidazolium chloride

Nomination Date: 06/07/2006

Nominator: NCI

Rationale: Ionic liquids are intended as replacements for volatile organic chemicals (VOCs) and significant human exposure to ionic liquids might occur if safety precautions are not followed when they are used in industrial processes. Of all the possible combinations of anions and cations, only the ionic liquid 1-methylimidazolium chloride is in full-scale commercial use. Due to its structural similarity to the already nominated compound 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium chloride, NCI requests testing of 1-methylimidazolium chloride focusing on potential differences in how these two compounds are retained in the body.
