Nomination Summary for Dimethylformamide (N85204)
Nominated Substances: Dimethylformamide
Nomination Date: 06/05/1984
Nominator: NIOSH
Rationale: Dimethylformamide (DMF) is widely used as a solvent and most commonly used in the manufacture of polymers, protective coatings, adhesives, films and printing inks. This wide application, coupled with its volatility and its ability to readily penetrate intact skin, denotes that DMF may pose significant health hazards to man during its manufacture, distribution, and use. The experimental data is inadequate. Reports from teratological studies report no fetal malformations but can produce increased fetal deaths when the doses approach the lethal level for the female parent of the species.
