NTP is an interagency program whose mission is to evaluate substances of public health concern by developing and applying the tools of modern toxicology and molecular biology. This involves:
- Conducting toxicological tests
- Developing and validating improved (sensitive, specific, rapid) testing methods
- Creating approaches and gathering data to strengthen the science base for risk assessment, and sharing it with all stakeholders
Our in-depth testing and study produces needed scientific data about substances humans interact with every day. NTP plays a vital role in providing this data, along with interpretations and guidance on the appropriate uses of that data, to policy-makers, regulatory agencies, and researchers involved with health-related topics. These groups can then use the data to determine policies and practices to improve public health.
