Testing Information

NTP is an interagency program whose mission is to evaluate substances of public health concern by developing and applying the tools of modern toxicology and molecular biology. This involves:

  • Conducting toxicological tests
  • Developing and validating improved (sensitive, specific, rapid) testing methods
  • Creating approaches and gathering data to strengthen the science base for risk assessment, and sharing it with all stakeholders

Our in-depth testing and study produces needed scientific data about substances humans interact with every day. NTP plays a vital role in providing this data, along with interpretations and guidance on the appropriate uses of that data, to policy-makers, regulatory agencies, and researchers involved with health-related topics. These groups can then use the data to determine policies and practices to improve public health.
