Rationale: Plumbagin is a natural yellow pigment that may have toxic properties. Human exposure occurs primarily through its use in folk medicines & recently marketed dietary supplements. There is much evidence to suggest that plumbagin may have potential as a chemotherapeutic or chemopreventive agent. Plumbagin has been identified as a redox-cycling agent that also induces DNA cleavage and demonstrates reproductive toxicity.
