Nomination Summary for Bromopropanes (N20009)

Bromopropanes

Specific Substances: 2-Bromopropane, 1-Bromopropane

Nomination Date: 12/00/1999

Nominator: OSHA, NIOSH

Rationale: It is expected that domestic production and use of 1-bromopropane (1-BP) will increase significantly as companies use this industrial chemical in place of regulated substances. 2-Bromopropane (2-BP) present as a contaminant in commercial preparations of 1-BP is also nominated for study. In addition to concern over high production volumes, there is a high probability that tens of thousands of workers will be exposed at concentrations associated with reproductive toxicity. Testing of the bromopropanes may also reveal structure-activity relationships among the halogenated alkanes and alkenes.
