Rationale: S-Adenoslymethionine (SAMe) is a popular dietary supplement used to treat osteoarthritis, depression, and liver disease. SAMe is a physiological methyl donor in all mammals. Hypomethylation is associated with epigenetic changes leading to carcinogenesis. It is not known if high doses of exogenously administered SAMe can cause adverse effects from methylation of DNA bases.
