Nomination Summary for Propylene glycol (N20132)

Nominated Substances: 1,2-Propylene glycol

Nomination Date: 09/18/2001

Nominator: NIEHS

Rationale: Propylene glycol is scheduled for review (with other glycols) by the NTP Center for Evaluation for Risks to Human Reproduction. It appears potential developmental toxicity may not be adequately characterized. Some oral teratogenicity studies conducted for FDA in the early 1970s were negative, however the highest doses used were near the low end of the range where developmental effects were seen with exposure to ethylene glycol. The ETP Director asked that the need for further developmental toxicity studies of propylene glycol be considered by NTP.

NTP Principles: not specified
