Specific Substances: Kaempferol
Nomination Date: 01/00/1984
Rationale: Kaempferol was nominated on the basis of its potential for carcinogenicity and to represent the flavonoid compounds which occur widely in wood and other plant material. Kaempferol has demonstrated activity in several microbial and mammalian cell genotoxicity tests, but has not been adequately tested for carcinogenicity. Kaempferol occurs in the commercially used wood Afzelia and has been detected in numerous vegetables and fruits.
