Known Uses

Intermediate in the synthesis of polyvinylpyrrolidone, dl-methionine, piperidine, phenylbutyric acid, and thiobutyric acids. Solvent for resins. Constituent of paint removers. Textile aids. Drilling oils. Associated with tobacco: reported either as a natural component of tobacco, pyrolysis product (in tobacco smoke), or additive for one or more types of tobacco products.
