Known Uses

Antifreeze in cooling and heating systems. Extraction solvent. Cleaning agent. Chemical intermediate for polyesters, urethanes, and alkyd resins, vehicle for pharmaceutical preparations, food extracts, flavorings, skin lotions (HSDB 1990). Associated with tobacco: reported either as a natural component of tobacco, pyrolysis product (in tobacco smoke), or additive for one or more types of tobacco products.
