Known Uses

Intermediate In plastics preparation, wetting & flavoring agent, preparation of furfural alcohol, insecticide, fungicide, germicide, refining petroleum oils, solvent for cotton, dyes (HSDB 1990). Occurs in essential oils, coffee, rum (food, cosm tox). Associated with tobacco: reported either as a natural component of tobacco, pyrolysis product (in tobacco smoke), or additive for one or more types of tobacco products.
