Local anesthetic, antioxidant, anti-gumming/anti-skinning agent, antitussive, analgesic, antiseptic, chemical intermediate; flavoring agent for non-alcoholic beverages; isolated from guanaiac resin, tars; used in the manufacture of medicines & perfumes. Associated with tobacco: reported either as a natural component of tobacco, pyrolysis product (in tobacco smoke), or additive for one or more types of tobacco products.
