Substitute for acetaldehyde; manufacture dyestuff intermediates; solvent for fats, oils, waxes, gums, resins; leather, mixtures for cellulose derivatives; industrially it has been used as solvent & also as rubber activator & antioxidant; medication. Associated with tobacco: reported either as a natural component of tobacco, pyrolysis product (in tobacco smoke), or additive for one or more types of tobacco products.
