Known Uses

Used in cosmetics as an exfoliant and pH adjuster; used in the processing of textiles, leather and metals, in pH control, and where an inexpensive organic acid is needed. It is also used in cleaning, polishing, and soldering compounds, copper pickling, adhesives, electroplating, breakdown of petroleum emulsions, as a chelating agent for iron, and in chemical milling. Associated with tobacco: reported either as a natural component of tobacco, pyrolysis product (in tobacco smoke), or additive for one or more types of tobacco products.
