Used as a chemical intermediate in organic synthetic, pharmaceutical & agricultural chemical manufacture and as an analytical reagent. Also used as a food additive as a flavor enhancer, flavoring agent or adjuvant. Potential use as an inhalant to suppress appetite. Associated with tobacco: reported either as a natural component of tobacco, pyrolysis product (in tobacco smoke), or additive for one or more types of tobacco products.
