EPA holds second conference on NAMs for Chemical Safety Testing

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) will hold its 2nd annual conference on the “State of Science on Development and Use of NAMs for Chemical Safety Testing” on October 19-20. The virtual conference is being presented in response to the September 2019 directive by EPA Administrator Andrew Wheeler to reduce the EPA’s use of mammalian studies. Conference topics will include implementation of animal testing reduction at EPA and state of the science in development of new approach methodologies (NAMs), including discussions of current limitations and developing scientific confidence in new approaches.

NTP activities at ASCCT annual meeting

The 9th annual meeting of the American Society for Cellular and Computational Toxicology (ASCCT) will be held virtually on October 20-22 with no registration fee charged. The conference will focus on the science and policy considerations needed to enable the EPA to eliminate reliance on mammalian tests to make regulatory decisions by 2035. The program will feature plenary speakers, panel discussions, oral and poster presentations drawn from submitted abstracts, and opportunities for early-career scientists through a mentoring session and poster awards. The work of NTP scientists will be featured in four oral presentations and 10 poster presentations, with topics including high-throughput image analysis, data curation, in vitro models, and molecular assessment of interindividual variability. Registration and a program are available on the ASCCT website.

Presentations available from September 2-3 SACATM meeting

Presentation slides are available from the September 2-3 meeting of the Scientific Advisory Committee on Alternative Toxicological Methods (SACATM). To view the presentations, visit and click on “Presentations” in the far right column of the first row.
