CASRN: 1309-64-4
Status: Cancer hazard evaluation for potential listing in the Report on Carcinogens (RoC)

Primary Uses or Exposures

  • Oxide of trivalent (+3) antimony and most commercially significant form of antimony.
  • Primarily used as a synergist for halogenated flame retardants in plastics, rubber, and textiles, all of which are used in a wide variety of consumer products.
  • Also used in the manufacture of polyethylene terephthalate (PET) plastics, as an additive in glass and ceramic products and as a catalyst in the chemical industry.
  • People are mainly exposed to antimony trioxide in the workplace. They can potentially be exposed when using consumer products containing antimony trioxide or breathing contaminated air.
