Substance Overview
Primary Uses or Exposures
- Oxide of trivalent (+3) antimony and most commercially significant form of antimony.
- Primarily used as a synergist for halogenated flame retardants in plastics, rubber, and textiles, all of which are used in a wide variety of consumer products.
- Also used in the manufacture of polyethylene terephthalate (PET) plastics, as an additive in glass and ceramic products and as a catalyst in the chemical industry.
- People are mainly exposed to antimony trioxide in the workplace. They can potentially be exposed when using consumer products containing antimony trioxide or breathing contaminated air.
