Continued development of SeqAPASS

EPA’s Sequence Alignment to Predict Across Species Susceptibility (SeqAPASS) is a fast online screening tool that allows researchers to extrapolate toxicity information across species.

There were four updates to SeqAPASS in 2024 and 2025, the most recent being the release of SeqAPASS v. 9.0 in September 2025. Improvements to SeqAPASS in these releases included:

  • Protein structure generation and alignment capabilities to support detailed analyses of protein structural biology
  • Incorporation of data from the World Register of Marine Species database to allow filtering of marine species
  • Addition of a Focus/Filter toggle to customize results displays to either highlight optional selections from a full list of species or filter results to only display species that match the optional selection
  • Data and executable updates

Training on new SeqAPASS capabilities was provided at an EPA virtual training session in May 2025. SeqAPASS v. 9.1 is scheduled for release in early 2026 and will include additional data and executable updates; v. 10.0 will be released later in 2026.
