NICE tools updates
The NIH Integrated Chemical Environment (NICE), developed by NICEATM, provides data and tools to help develop, assess, and interpret chemical safety tests. All tool inputs now provide a “filter-as-you-type” function to help users find Chemical Quick Lists of interest. NICE tool help videos were updated in the September 2024 NICE v. 4.1 release and the February 2025 NICE v. 4.1.1 release. The updates also implemented improvements to many specific NICE tools.
- Major updates to Search result data visualizations in the March 2024 v. 4.0.2 release added immersive visualizations and functional use pagination; this release also updated filter chain options for Search results.
- The March 2024 update of the In Vitro to In Vivo Extrapolation (IVIVE) tool added new options for data overlays to contextualize model results. The July 2025 NICE v. 4.2 release also enabled users to provide their own physicochemical and absorption, distribution, metabolism, and excretion (ADME) data to Physiologically Based Pharmacokinetics (PBPK) and IVIVE tool queries.
- The July 2025 release revised the principal component analysis plots in the Chemical Characterization tool.
- Multiple improvements were made to the Curve Surfer tool, which allows users to view and interact with concentration–response curves from curated high-throughput screening (HTS) data. The tool now allows users to overlay AC50 or ACC values and includes technological interference flags and points-of-departure in results. Curve Surfer data are also now available via the NICE REST API.
