Development of BioBricks, a bioinformatics repository
BioBricks (Insilica) is an application that makes large bioinformatics databases programmatically accessible. Because of the potential usefulness of this tool for toxicological data acquisition and analysis, NICEATM began working with Insilica in 2022 to provide support and testing of the BioBricks platform. The NICEATM team contributed to building numerous bricks (units that encapsulate datasets), including those derived from NICE datasets. NICEATM also supported the testing and expansion of the BioBricks interface through activities such as the development of a Python version. A complete description of BioBricks has been published in Frontiers in Artificial Intelligence (Gao et al. 2025), with NICEATM team members serving as coauthors. All databases integrated into BioBricks are fully and freely available; the code is open-source and available via a GitHub repository.
