Coagulating Gland - Atrophy

Comment:
Atrophy of the coagulating gland consists of reduction in size of acini and of the lining epithelium. The ascinar reduction and/or collapse causes an increased prominence of the periacinar fibromuscular tissue. The lining epithelial cells are attenuated, and there may be reduction or absence of luminal secretory product. Atrophic changes may be age related and can be caused by castration or exposure to some hormonally active xenobiotics.
Recommendations:
Atrophy of the coagulating gland should be diagnosed and graded.
